How to Fix the “Cannot Connect to Roku” Error?

Streaming the Roku device is quite a simple and easy process. However, just as with other technologies, Roku also shows several errors. The common error that you might get is “Cannot Connect to Roku”. It means that your device is unable to connect to Roku. This error can be shown because of several issues. Irrespective of the reason, this error requires to get resolved quickly. For resolving the error, you can follow the troubleshooting steps given below. 

Method1: Check the Wireless Network Name You Have Entered

For fixing the “Cannot Connect to Roku” error, you first have to check the wireless network you have connected with. If you have connected to a wrong wireless network, then you will get the error. Hence, check the name of your home network and the name of the network you have connected to. 

Method2: Re-type Your Password

If the password you have entered is correct, but it was still showing the error, then you should try re-entering the password. Passwords are case-sensitive. So, you have to enter the password carefully. Even a single mistake in the password will show the error. 

Method 3: Reboot Your Roku Device and Router

In situations of getting the “Cannot connect to Roku” error, you must try to reboot your router and your Roku device. For this, follow the below-given process. 

Restarting The Router:

  • First of all, press the power button of your router to turn it off. 
  • Then, remove the power cord from the router as well as the electric board. 
  • After that, wait patiently for around 2-3 minutes. 
  • Now, again plug in the power cord on both the router and electric board. 
  • Next, you have to press the power button from your router. 

Reboot Your Roku Player:

  • If you are using a Roku remote, then move to SettingsSystemSystem Restart. 
On the other hand, if you are using Roku Television, then, go to SettingsSystemPowerSystem Restart. 
  • Further, you have to unplug the power cable from your Roku device. 
  • Now, wait for a few minutes.  
  • Then, plug in the power cable to your Roku device. 
After rebooting both the router and Roku device, you have to try checking whether the error now persists or not. 

Method4: Boost the Signal Strengths 

For resolving the error, you can try boosting your signal strengths. For this, you have to remove the unnecessary obstacles that are coming in between the router and the Roku device. You can do this by placing your router near the Roku device. This will help you in resolving the error as by decreasing the number of obstacles, signals start getting stronger. 

Method5: Reset Your Roku Device

If all the above methods fail, then you can try resetting your Roku device. This will erase all the settings, preferences, added accounts, etc. For this, follow the process mentioned below. 
  • First of all, press the “Home” button from your Roku Remote.
  • Now, scroll up and down in the menu to select the “Settings” option. For this, use the navigation keys from your Roku remote.
  • Then, select SystemAdvanced System SettingsFactory Reset
  • After that, enter the special reset code that you will get in the same window. This is required for confirming the factory reset process.  
  • Press the “Ok” tab.
  • This will begin the factory reset process.
  • Once the process gets completed, check whether the error got resolved or not.
